Working 5 To 11

A tasty reward for a very long day.

Okay, so working 5am to 11pm (with breaks for running, yoga, food, etc. in between) doesn’t quite have the ring that working 9 to 5 has. Regardless, the point I’m trying to make is that I’ve been working too much.

That’s right folks – I know that I’m a workaholic. I freely admit it. I’ve always been this way. I probably always will be.

Of course, I’m not really complaining about this because I’ve been having too much fun to really call what I’ve been doing ‘work’. And someone keeps putting money into my bank account as a result of said work, so that’s a nice side effect of all of this insanity.

Regardless, I realize that the hours I’ve been working this semester are not sustainable if I wish to live a balanced and healthy life. So they will return to a normal-for-me schedule probably sometime after my two courses are finished. Until that time, I expect my schedule to be Crazy-Pants-McGee. Between grad students, courses, grading, research, grant writing, meetings, and sitting on committees, it’s all but impossible not to have an insane schedule.

Perhaps better time management would help, but I’d like to think of myself as quite organized. I’m thinking what I need is a clone, not unlike that which Calvin (of the most awesomest comic ever – Calvin and Hobbes) produced with his Duplicator.

But fear not, dear readers. My life is not all books and computers and math (although that really does sound like an awesome life to me). As proof, I offer you the following: I am currently sitting at the Woolwich Arrow (affectionately known as the Wooly), enjoying the feature brew and not thinking about work or math or statistics.

Much.

Okay, I’m lying. I’m almost always thinking about math and stats.

(I did say I was a workaholic after all).

I can see your point; working a lot might put a damper on the physical exercise.Time management is the key, as you said. Great post and I look forward to sharing more with you:))

Thanks for reading! I’ll get back to the training tomorrow. And as much as I’m slightly annoyed with myself for not running this eve, I am happy that I managed to get as much done as I did, and also allowed myself an extra day to rest. Especially since the ‘rest’ portion of training has always been my weakest element.

That glass resembles that of my current favourite beer – Duvel (have you tried it? – if not you should consider adding it to your to-drink list)

Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve tried it. Clearly I have some “research” to do.

P.S. – that’s my favourite kind of research.
