Today we said farewell to both Petrina and Sanjay – one returning home to Singapore, the other moving on to the next leg of his adventure in Dubai. That leaves just me, Rick, and Alan, (as well as Timarian – another trekker we met on our journey to Everest base camp) to ring in the new year in Kathmandu.
How are we planning on ringing in the new year? Well, I may or may not have spotted a deliciously delicious bottle of scotch in one of the various stores in the streets of the Thamel district of Kathmandu. Because the new year demands scotch, and who am I to argue? Now all we have to do is find an appropriate place to drink the scotch. I’m hoping we can actually find a rooftop patio. It’ll be chilly, but should give us a rather awesome vantage point for which to welcome 2015.
Before we do that, however, there will be dinner at a local restaurant called Third Eye which promises some excellent Indian dishes. After that, we’ll make our way to a nearby street festival. I’m betting we’ll likely freeze our butts off, but it’ll be worth it to get a glimpse of some of the local culture.
Tomorrow Rick and I may also be opting for breakfast in bed, because our fancy-pants hotel offers free breakfast in bed with our room price, and also – did I mention breakfast in bed?
Overall, not a bad way to ring in 2015.
