Because Everest

Today’s post will be short and sweet because I have to tackle a mountain of grading. For those of you who have been following along for the past several months, you’ll know that my mountain of grading is not the mountain of which I’ve been dreaming.

Not even slightly. That honour goes to the sweet, sweet, mountainy goodness known as Everest.

It’s hard to believe that Rick and I leave for Nepal in fewer than 6 days. To be more specific, I will be taking off from Toronto in approximately 5 days, 22 hours.

Holy hell, only 142 hours separates me from what I’m sure will be the adventure of a lifetime. Trekking to Everest has been on my list for a very long time. I remember when I was younger chatting about this very adventure with my brother. While I never doubted I’d get there, it always seemed like a rather lofty someday kind of goal. And yet, here we are, with 142 hours between me and the mountain.

I might be freaking out ever so slightly. While Rick and I have tackled many mountains together, this one is different. It’s the Big Kahuna, the Big Cheese, the Really Big Deal, the Everest. In some ways I feel that no matter how much we prepare, we’re never going to be fully prepared for what awaits us. And honestly, that’s exciting, and nerve-racking, and amazing, and holy hell did I mention exciting?

Whatever awaits us, I’m grateful that I’m going to get to share the experience with Rick. As far as people go, he’s pretty alright. Actually, he’s one of the best.

Rick – thanks for carrying the weight of organizing this trip. It is truly appreciated and I owe you huge. Of course, don’t take this to mean that I’m not going to make fun of you every step of the way to base camp. 😉
